The UNLV Department of Accounting is excited to offer free tax preparation services again this year through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, running February 1st through April 1st. The virtual program is certified by the IRS and is available to UNLV students, faculty, staff, and their families with an annual household income of $60,000 or less. The completely virtual service will be provided by certified tax preparers through a secure web portal where you can upload your documents without ever leaving your home. Though the service is free, space is limited. To schedule your initial appointment, email VITA@unlv.edu. #unlv #unlvaccounting #leebusinessschool

Financial aid administrators do not need to be tax experts, yet there aresome issues that even a layperson with basic tax law information can evaluate. My question is "If the tax data is inaccurate, how are we supposed to know?"Don't write me up for "Vonflicting tax information!"(GENERAL-24-28) Potential Issue Alert – Reports Concerning Tax Data and 2024-25 FAFSA FormPOSTED DATEMarch 29, 2024SUBJECTPotential Issue Alert – Reports Concerning Tax Data and 2024-25 FAFSA FormWe are aware of reports concerning tax data provided on theInstitutional Student Information Records(ISIRs) for 2024-25 FAFSA applications. We have been in touch with schools that have raised this issue directly with the Department. The Department and IRS are working together to assess the reports and determine if this affects a subset of submitted applications, and if there are system issues in need of resolution. Based on the reports raised, we believe these issues would not affect the significant majority of all previously submitted applications. In collaboration with the IRS, we will determine the scope, impact, and remedy for any potential issues identified. We will keep the financial aid community informed of the status related to these reports and provide states, schools, and other stakeholders with any further guidance as quickly as possible once we have more information. We appreciate your patience as we complete our assessment.
